The solution for creative platform designs

This Support Element is particularly suitable for smaller treehouses, single-sided cantilevered wooden decks and for bypassing large branches. In contrast to the Heavy Set with the 45° Diamond Bracket, you have free choice when designing your tribeam.

Treehouse Triangle Wood Construction Flat Angle

Tribeam Construction

Flat Angle
Minimum trunk diameter ø > 35 cm (14 in) at the height of the top Screw.

The advantage of a flat angle is that the triangle needs less height, you have more headroom under the treehouse and can build closer to the ground. There should be at least 1 m (3,3 ft) of space between the GTS and the angle should not be flatter than 30°.

Note that a shallower angle also puts more leverage on your Tree Screws.

Building a treehouse triangular construction plan

Tribeam Construction

Pointed Angle
Minimum trunk diameter ø > 35 cm (14 in) at the height of the top Screw.

The more pointed the angle, the better the vertical load can be absorbed, as the wood fibres of the trunk are much more load-bearing in the longitudinal direction. In order to still be able to install a wide cross-beam, the triangle is extended laterally with additional struts. The acute angle is 60°.

Build your own treehouse cantilever platform

Leverage forces

Cantilevered triangle
With cantilevered platforms, always consider the leverage forces acting laterally on your Tree Screws! A light platform or terrace is no problem, but a heavy treehouse should always be built close to the trunk.

Especially in softwoods (spruce, pine, …) the load-bearing capacity of Tree Screws across the wood grain is lower. In such cases, it is better to use the GTS Allstar at the bottom as well.

Calculate beam dimensions

Wood type for outdoor use: e.g. larch or Douglas fir

Dimensions of the triangular beams:

For the triangular beams, use beams, square or upright, with at least 9 × 9 cm (3,5 in) cross-section for small triangles of 1,5 m (5 ft); for beam lengths around 3 m (10 ft), better 12 × 12 cm (4,7 in).

Frequently Asked Questions

On which GTS do I put the Distance Rings?

It is usually sufficient to secure the desired position of the Static Support on the upper GTS with Distance Rings. The Bracket on the lower GTS wedges automatically due to the tilting movement.

If some movement is expected with two trees, 1 pair of Distance Rings can be omitted from one of the triangles to allow a little more freedom of movement.

Can I use another GTS Screw instead?

You can adjust the set at any time: Depending on the load situation, the GTS AllstarTop or Friend can be installed. The top bolt with the Static Support is usually the larger one because it takes more load. The lower screw also takes a lot of load, but is mainly important for lateral stabilisation.

If the log is ø >35 cm (14 in) at the height of the platform, at least one GTS Allstar should always be used. The long rod of the Allstar gives leeway if the tree is tilted forward or backward.

When do I use V-Bracket and when 45° Diamond Bracket?

If you want to build a triangle, whether small or large, you usually use the Diamond Bracket.

In contrast to the V-Bracket, it has a predefined brace angle of 45° and a fixed back wall. This makes it more stable overall and makes it particularly suitable for large 3-D triangles with high loads.

The symmetrical construction and the back wall facilitate the cutting and dimensioning of the timbers.

How do I install the GTS in the tree?
  1. Pre-drill the hole in the tree (Auger or Forstner bit).
  2. Screw in the screw (large ratchet).
  3. Push on the Support with the wooden beam.
  4. Done!
