Welcome 2024 – Welcome to the 8th year with TheTreehouse.Shop!

Like every year, we are starting 2024 with a big thank you to YOU! Thank you for your interest in our website, thank you for your boundless trust in our products and thank you for helping us to keep getting better! 2023 was another brilliant year for our team, full of nice customer contacts, new challenges and great success stories (e.g. our new Treehouse baby “Merlin”).

This year’s “Treehouse Photo / Video Competition” is also a good example of our success: never before have we had so many entries — 32 participants in total!

As always, full of inspiring stories, happy faces and the whole range of building styles and crazy ideas. As always, we are so happy to see your dreams realised.

That’s exactly why we love our job 🙂

Professional vs DIY treehouses – our 6 winners

As so many professional tree house builders took part this year, we have split the winners into two categories:

1. Grand prizes for DIY treehouses:

We decided this time to give all the main prizes to our amateur treehouse builders, i.e. those who are building a real treehouse for the first time (otherwise almost all the prizes would have gone to professional treehouse builders – they are the luckiest people in the world anyway, as they are treehouse builders for a living;).

2. Free advertising for our professional treehouse builders:

The entries from our treehouse professionals are absolutely amazing! And you won’t go away empty-handed either: As well as advertising on our social media channels, we’ll be featuring your companies separately on our blog. All of this will happen over the course of the year when our NEW WEBSITE is launched!

1st place: Frans van den Heuvel – For a drink in the treehouse bar

Over the past few years, Frans and his friends from the Netherlands have created a wonderful place that combines a tree house and a bar. Good things take time, you’re finally ready! We will visit you soon, an ice-cold Hertog Jan and Mooie Nel please;)

Read Frans' nice email about the Treehouse Contest:

“Hi Vitus,

I trust this message finds you in good spirits. Over the past year, a passion project has taken shape in my life, and I couldn’t resist sharing the excitement with you, triggered by your message about the contest. My sons, their friends and my brother-in-law joined forces to bring to life a Treehouse Bar—a dream that took over a year to built and was finally realized in December 2021.

The genesis of this venture traces back to a promise made to my sons and their friends when they were just ~16. Fast-forward 14 years, and we found ourselves with the time and enthusiasm to turn that dream into reality. It’s worth noting that I sourced some essential materials, including tabs in the US back in 2016, the remainder I bought via your website, thrilled that there was at some point a European treehouse gear manufacturer.

Our Treehouse Bar is a fully insulated haven, complete with HR++ glass panes. To ensure comfort even in the coldest weather, I repurposed an old 9 kWh sauna heater, capable of warming the space within 20 minutes even during freezing weather conditions!

For your peace of mind, the structural integrity of the bar has been meticulously examined by a construction engineer. Here are some key details:

  • Bar dimensions: ~6 × 8 = 48 m2
  • Deck/terrace: 6 × 4 = 24 m2
  • Max length: 14.5 meters
  • Deck height: ~5 meters
  • Rooftop height: ~8.3 meters

Kind regards,

Frans”

2nd place: Michael Riese – A treehouse for the whole neighbourhood

Michael’s text: “At 65, I’m basically past the age when you build something for your children. In 2022, a Ukrainian family with two children came to stay with us and these boys wanted to build a tree house in our garden with the neighbour’s children. I thought we should support something like that! Fortunately, I found the right tools, tree screws and the right tips in your shop. I ordered everything and after a quick delivery we got to work. Of course we had to have a swing, slide and ropeway. To make sure that there were no accidents from the 4 metre height on the west side, we pulled safety nets from the building trade all around the house. Of course, the house is now also used by lots of children from the neighbourhood.”

3rd place: Thomas Bachmann – The little oasis in the midst of colourful houses

What we like about Thomas’ project is the contrast between the block of flats and the little Pippi Longstocking house in between. And what could be nicer than the happy faces of the family and neighbours’ children! – We wish you many more special moments and hope that the tree house will remain a magical meeting place for the neighbourhood forever!

4th place: Guy Hebert – France, the land of sweet tree houses

Guy and his friends have built this cosy little house in the middle of nowhere in the French Cévennes – I’m sure his nature lovers and our little explorers will be delighted. We need more places like this!

5th place: Felix Herzberg – Carpenters in a crooked tree

It’s no longer a secret that size doesn’t matter in our tree house competition. What impressed us about this little tree house was the craftsmanship and the ease with which this cute little house was placed in the crooked willow. Hats off to the carpenters!

As always, the decision was not easy for our jury. Those who didn’t make it onto the podium will be given a nice spot on our social media channels. Follow us here:
