The entry into the world of triangular constructions

With the combination of GTS Friend and 45° V-Bracket, cute platforms can be built in very thin trees. In hardwoods (beech, oak, ash, …) the platform can easily cantilever, in softwoods it is better to distribute the load evenly near the trunk. The assembly of the GTS Friend does not involve any significant intervention in the tree; all that is needed is a 36 mm Auger-Bit and a medium-strong cordless drill machine.

Trick for thin trees

Height offset
Minimum trunk diameter ø > 25 cm (10 in) at the height of the Screws.

To ensure that there is enough space for the GTS, opposite GTS must be offset in height from a trunk diameter < 35 cm (14 in)!

V-Bracket 45°

Variable angle
With the V-Bracket 45°, triangle angles from closed 45° to open 30° can be realised. This allows you to avoid branches, to build one-sided cantilevered platforms or to make the triangle completely flat for platforms close to the ground.

1 or 2 Trees

Avoid movement
In softwood, the load-bearing capacity of the GTS Friend is rather low. If you are building between two trees, make sure that they do not move too much and tear at the GTS Screws. If movement is to be expected or the platform protrudes strongly to the side, it is better to use our larger GTS models.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to mount the GTS in the tree?
  1. Pre-drill the hole in the tree (Auger or Forstner bit).
  2. Screw in the screw (large ratchet).
  3. Push on the Support with the wooden beam.
  4. Done!

The tools are all available in our Online Shop. You can find detailed assembly videos on our YouTube Channel.

Will my treehouse grow upwards with the tree?

Don’t worry, you don’t have to extend your ladder every year. Trees only sprout at the branch tips. The rest of the tree then only grows in width (thickness growth, annual rings). You can easily observe this by looking at the carvings on the trunk, they remain at the same height for the rest of the tree’s life – just like your tree house.

Is my tree hardwood or softwood?

The decisive factor for anchoring the treehouse with Treehouse Screws is the compressive strength along the wood grain.

Hardwood (> 2.5 KN/cm²) – very suitable for Treehouse Bolts:

  • Hardwoods: maple, beech, oak, ash, walnut, sycamore, robinia.

Medium hardwood (2 – 2.5 KN/cm²) – well suited for Treehouse Bolts:

  • Hardwoods: birch, sweet chestnut, alder, cherry tree, lime tree
  • Softwoods: Douglas fir, pine, larch, spruce, fir

Softwood (< 2 KN/cm²) – moderately suitable for high loads on Treehouse Bolts:

  • Hardwoods: aspen, poplar, pear, horse chestnut, elm, willow
  • Coniferous woods: cedar

IMPORTANT: These are only rough guide values – wood strength varies from tree to tree, from place to place and even within a tree! Wound healing and compartmentalisation also play an important role. You can find out how to analyse your treehouse-tree on this page: Which tree is suitable?
