Load Capacity - Set XS
- in softwood up to 1 tonne*
- in hardwood up to 2 tonnes*
* Important: The actual load capacity depends on many factors, e.g. lever arm, load direction or wood strength. Always calculate with a safety factor!
Lateral leverage forces on the GTS Free must be avoided, especially in softwood!
A more stable connection is achieved by connecting the wooden beams with GTS Friend & Brackets.
Assembly instructions & video
To install the GTS Screws, a hole must be pre-drilled in the tree – you can find the appropriate installation tools in our shop.
The beams are pre-drilled with the same 36 mm drill bit, placed on the GTS Free and secured with the included fully threaded screws.

Application with limitations
The GTS Free without accessories is a clever fastening solution – but the drill hole in the beam must not be subjected to excessive stress.
❌ Not suitable for heavy movement
❌ Little play due to short shank
❌ The tree can only grow to a limited extent
Build a stilt treehouse
The small triangles with a span of up to 2.5 m (8.2 ft) provide a stable base for floor joists (white).
Ideal for raised stilt treehouses in thin trees – especially if the tree is close to the property boundary.
Be aware of leverage!
Important note: The GTS Free is only suitable for low horizontal loads – especially in softwood. Avoid one-sided loads, lever and twisting movements.
As soon as the trunk is large enough (> 35 cm (13.8 in)), we recommend using larger GTS models!
For larger projects, we recommend our more stable Treehouse Hardware Kits.
The XS kits are only suitable for very thin trees and small loads. If you want to invest a little more and have a larger tree available, you should opt for our larger kits – for greater safety and better tree growth.

Can I also use screws from the hardware store for Treehouse Fastening?
Our practical experience: No!
The screws, threaded rods and bolts available from DIY stores are not suitable for the extreme loads of a treehouse. The frequent alternating loads caused by wind are particularly problematic, as these can lead to fatigue fractures in normal wood screws over time.
In addition, the treehouse construction must be at a distance from the tree so that it can continue to grow in width. Only professional treehouse screws can reliably cope with the distance and the associated lever forces!

Which of the 6 GTS Screws is right for your project depends on the following factors:
How do I connect the wooden beams?
For stable connections of the floor joists, we recommend partially threaded screws:
- Up to 160 mm in length: stainless steel screws (ø 6 - 8 mm)
- From 160 mm: galvanised screws (ø 6–10 mm)
Joints can be made smooth. Secure heavily loaded areas additionally with full thread screws, angle plates or PU glue.
