The classic for treehouses between 2, 3 and 4 trees!

A sliding platform is well suited when a lot of movement in the trees is expected. This is the case if the trees have a trunk diameter < 60 cm (24 in) at installation height, the treehouse is higher than 3 m (10 ft) in the tree or the trees are exposed to strong winds. There is great freedom of design in the base area of the platform, even with curved and inclined trees. Spans of up to 8 m (26 ft) are easily possible; with even larger tree spans, an additional centre support makes sense, as otherwise the supporting beam becomes too massive. The advantage over the construction with triangles and struts is the floating appearance and the freely usable space under the treehouse.

Building a treehouse Fixing wooden beams between two trees

Treehouse Building

2 Trees
Minimum trunk diameter ø > 45 cm (17 in) at platform height.

The bolts are fixed opposite each other in the tree and support the two wooden beams on which the platform is fixed. Static Supports are mounted on the thicker tree. Dynamic Supports are mounted on the thinner tree – this allows the trees to dance independently in the wind.

Building a treehouse between three trees Plan

Treehouse Building

3 Trees
Minimum trunk diameter tree with 2 Screws ø > 45 cm (17 in) at platform height.

Minimum trunk diameter of secondary trees with 1 Screw ø > 35 cm (14 in) at platform height.

The most massive tree 1 carries the two bolts with the Static Supports – trees 2 & 3 are each slidingly supported.

Fixing the treehouse in 4 trees Plan

Treehouse Building

4 Trees
Minimum trunk diameter trees with 1 Screw ø > 35 cm at platform height.

The two strongest trees 1 & 2 carry the Static Support – tree 3 & 4 are slidingly supported.

Calculate beam dimensions

Wood type for outdoor use: e.g. larch or Douglas fir

The greater the span, the greater the height of the timber beam must be.

Example for the calculation of timber cross-sections at 6 m centre distance between the trees:

  • Main girders stand e.g. 1 m above each → 8 m total length.
  • Beam height = centre distance [cm] / 20 = 600 cm / 20 = 30 cm (minimum height).
  • Width of the support beams: 8 – 10 cm (3,1 – 3,9 in)

More about timber in our FAQs.

When mounting, note the 5 mm height difference of the Supports:

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I install a Treehouse Screw?
  1. Pre-drill the hole in the tree (Auger or Forstner bit).
  2. Screw in the screw (large ratchet).
  3. Push on the Support with the wooden beam.
  4. Done!

The tools are all available in our online shop. You can find detailed assembly videos on our YouTube channel.

  1.
Will my treehouse grow upwards with the tree?

Don’t worry, you don’t have to extend your ladder every year. Trees only sprout at the branch tips. The rest of the tree then only grows in width (thickness growth, annual rings). You can easily observe this by looking at the carvings on the trunk, they remain at the same height for the rest of the tree’s life – just like your tree house.

Can I additionally reinforce the platform construction?

If you want to build a very large treehouse, you can reinforce your Screws to increase the load-bearing capacity and thus the safety. This is especially recommended for soft trees (spruce, fir, willow, poplar, Douglas fir, larch, …).

Either secure the GTS from above with the Cable Suspension, or from below with the Strut GTS +.

How can I transfer the exact height of the Tree Screws to other trees?

The easiest way to do this is with a simple hose level, which you can buy for a few euros at the DIY store. Or you can use a professional levelling device. Then mark the exact height with a small wood screw.

We will be happy to help you! Please check our FAQ section first – there, we have already answered the most common questions for you.

In order to be able to advise you optimally, we need:

  • Sketches (drawn by hand is OK)
  • Position and height of the platform
  • Position and size of the treehouse
  • Photos of the trees
  • Tree diameter ø at the height of the platform
  • Tree species
  • Distance between trees (if more than one)
  • Use of the treehouse (many people, public, …)
  • Particularly stormy or snowy region?

“Since I often hang in trees or work with loud machines, it's best to contact me via email. The more concrete your idea and the more detailed the description, the better I can help you – thank you!”
