DYNAMIC SUPPORT

Dynamic connection

You need the Dynamic Supports if the treehouse is anchored in several trees. The Dynamic Support is firmly screwed to the wooden support beam and pushed onto the shaft of the GTS. Unlike the Static Support, the beam can move freely on the shaft of the GTS.

Trees want to dance

When building a platform between several trees, the tree trunks will want to move more or less in a storm, depending on their diameter. To ensure that the trees can move freely and do not snag on the treehouse construction, the trees must be decoupled.

Movement

Enough space
Here you can see how much space the Dynamic Support has on a GTS Allstar. Your trees can move accordingly. If a heavy storm does cause major movements, at least a large part of the forces will be absorbed, the rest will usually be absorbed well by the connection and the platform construction.

Distance Rings

Limit movement
Sliding Distance Rings onto the outside of the shaft of the GTS prevents the support beam from sliding outwards. This way you avoid a too big lever arm and an overload of your Tree Screws. This is necessary if you have a large load or if your tree is very soft (willow, poplar, spruce, fir, …).

If you still want to have the maximum range of movement under heavy loads, reinforce your GTS with the Strut GTS +.

Fastening the wooden beam

Firmly connected
Fasten your wooden beam with our Wood-Screw-Set with ø 6 mm wood screws and ø 10 mm hexagonal screws. For high loads or strong lever forces, it is better to use ø 8 mm wood screws and ø 12 mm carriage bolts with thick washers.

What is delivered?

1 × Dynamic Support (without Wood-Screws)

Product Details
  • DIN quality steel
  • Black KTL Coating
  • Screw holes for fixing the wooden beam:
    • 4× ø 8.5 mm, with chamfer for wood screws
    • 2× ø 13.5 mm for hexagonal wood screws or carriage bolts
  • Noiseless gliding thanks to UHMW plate

Goes with:

Technical Data
  • Dimensions:
    • Outer dimension mounting plate: l=310 mm (12,2 in); w=55 mm (2,17 in)
    • Sheet thickness: 5 mm (0,2 in)
    • Thickness UHMW plate: 4 mm
    • Height above axle GTS: 29 mm (1,14 in)
  • Weight: 1260 g
  • Article-No.: TTS2003
  • HS-Code (Customs): 73089059
Assembly
  1. Slide the Dynamic Support and the required Distance Rings onto the shaft of the GTS.
  2. Position the wooden beam on the support and screw it tight. The tree should have enough space to grow (approx. 10 cm).
  3. For fastening the supports, we recommend stainless steel screws 6-8 mm (small holes), and carriage bolts 10-12 mm (large holes).

Frequently Asked Questions

How thick must the wooden beam be?

To calculate the beam height, use the following rule of thumb:

Here an example:

With such a cross-section, the beam may cantilever 1,0 m on each side. It is not the total length of the beam that is important, but the distance between the supports (here 400 cm).:

The calculated height h here is therefore 20 cm.

This value can be increased by 2 – 4 cm if very large loads are to be expected. The value can be reduced by 2 cm if only one platform is built without a treehouse and without large crowds. The beam width b should always be > 6 cm to have enough space for the bolting.

Why do I always need a Static Support as well?

No matter what your treehouse looks like, you always need at least one fixed point (Static Support usually at the thickest tree). If you were to attach only Dynamic Supports, your platform would shift with every storm and either lie very close to the tree or slide completely outwards onto the GTS.

This would be bad because it would cause jerky impacts, the bolts could be overloaded and your treehouse could hit the trees uncontrollably.

When do I NOT need Dynamic Supports?
  • With triangular constructions you always install a Static Support at the top, with a Dynamic Supports the triangle would tilt to the side.
  • If all your trees at assembly height are very thick (ø > 60 cm) or you are building very close to the ground, and you do not expect the trees to sway more than 1-2 cm in the wind, you can theoretically install Static Supports everywhere.
At what distance from the tree do I position my Dynamic Supports?

A normal tree under normal conditions will roll over the Tree Screw 2-8 mm per year. The load-bearing capacity of our GTS Screws has been tested at a distance of 10 cm(support centre and support beam centre).

With Dynamic Supports, we recommend an average distance of 10 cm (4 in) from the centre of the support under normal load. To the outside, I would limit the movement space with Distance Rings so that the lever arm cannot become larger than 15 cm (6 in)! The Distance Rings can be removed when the GTS is well ingrown. Towards the inside, 1 to 2 sets of Distance Rings are sufficient so that the support beam does not rub against the tree.

This allows the tree to grow undisturbed around the wound and form stable reaction wood before contact with the support beam occurs at some point.

The greater the load and the softer the wood, the closer the beam must be to the tree! With an oak and normal load, for example, the beam can have a maximum of 15 cm free space to move. With the same load in a spruce, however, one would rather choose a maximum distance of 7 cm.

If you want to have the support and the beam far outside, you have to additionally reinforce the GTS with a Strut GTS + or a Cable Suspension Set.

How do I transfer the height of the Tree Screws to other trees?

The same height can easily be determined with a hose level.

Be sure to note the difference in height between Static and Dynamic Support (see Assembly Instructions)!

You can find the common longitudinal axis with a compass (e.g. smartphone app): Transfer the compass needle (cardinal direction) from your already mounted GTS Screws to the drill, so that the alignment of your screw pair is almost perfect!

Alternatively, you can also stretch a string between the trees to simulate the beam. You can then apply a right angle to this string to show the alignment of the GTS Screws perpendicular to the beam.

FAQ

Hi treehouse friends!

We will be happy to help you! Please check our FAQ section first – there, we have already answered the most common questions for you.

In order to be able to advise you optimally, we need:

  • Sketches (drawn by hand is OK)
  • Position and height of the platform
  • Position and size of the treehouse
  • Photos of the trees
  • Tree diameter ø at the height of the platform
  • Tree species
  • Distance between trees (if more than one)
  • Use of the treehouse (many people, public, …)
  • Particularly stormy or snowy region?

“Since I often hang in trees or work with loud machines, it's best to contact me via email. The more concrete your idea and the more detailed the description, the better I can help you – thank you!”
